Everyone returned top side for the rest of the day. Standard watches were set. They got to know the new dwarf a bit, a Cleric of Ishtar that had miraculously been stuck in the belly of the beast while his Goddess healed him day in and day out, for an unfathomable period of time. Osric was a bit shaken by the whole experience.
Alfbern quickly regained his wits and locomotion. Meals were eaten, and everyone seemed excited about the prospects of this underground locale and the mysteries it could hold. Spells and prayers were reconsidered, and options for exploration were discussed.
The rest of the day passed uneventfully.
[Any different spells memorized, please mark now. Any cures or spells cast before sleep and re-memorizing, please provide targets and quantities. Any other errands in the immediate vicinity that can be done during a watchshift feel free to post. You may also finish up dialog in the other folders.]

Alfbern cast his protection from evil on himself before his watch and in the morning memorized read magic from the loosely bound sheaf of papers that was his spellbook.

After the camp was set, Bit left the group and walked to the edge of the hole. Looking down into the unknown, his mind buzzed with doubts, fears and even - to his surprise - a fair amount of excitement. His poor performance during the last battle had left him troubled, concerned that he would not be able to face the challenges that lay ahead of him. Worried that he would somehow fail his compatriots.
Shaking himself he turned away from the pit and mumbled "Get your wits about you man. Epehisius did not train you to shy away from attention - he trained you to prepare for and embrace the inherent danger of life with the blade. This is just one more trial that practice and luck must see you through."
With a newfound resolve he performed his watch, slept, and upon waking began to practice the flurries, displays and routines that made up his repertoire.

The dwarven battlerager slept the deep unburdened sleep of simple folk. He did not seem at all disturbed by the fact that he had worn a spider twice his size as a hat only hours before. His snores were so loud, at one point during watch Bit leaped up, wary of another worm attack.

Full of talk and food, the dwarf decides to take an early watch. This newfound awaken state has him troubled.....why was he out here, before being eaten that is..... Taking the watch, and subsequent time walking a picket line, he prays to his goddess and asks for clarity for the future....slowly gazing out on the moonlit desert. Before he retires for the night and after his watch has been relieved, Osric makes a mental note of spells that probably won't help immediately: Breathe water He chuckles with himself at his latest thoughts before drifting off to sleep.

Before Saskia returned to the surface, she had a few rituals to perform. A pair of rites, designed to reveal hidden dangers. Dangers much like the sand trap they walked right into a couple hours ago. She used the magic to scan the length and breadth of the chamber.
When that work was complete, she tied the rope around herself and had Alfbern haul her out. She wasn't strong enough to climb up herself, but she did use the wall to help make things easier on her brother. Up under the burning sun, she had a few more items on her agenda. She had magic incantations, ancient elven secrets from her mother's spellbook, that should help her to decipher the writing on the statue.
The camels also needed to be seen to. She would use a ritual to create more water for them, and refill the party's skins. Once they'd drunk their fill, she spoke to them, explaining that they would likely be remaining in this spot for a while and to make themselves comfortable.
The last spell she cast before retiring into the tent Alfbern had prepared was a magical alarm that would sound if anything came out of or went into the hole into the chamber below them.

"Thank you, Saskia," Arristuun had said, thankful for more magic water. Magic water sure tasted fresh!
Arristuun had volunteered for the last shift of watch duty, as usual. Bailey was an early riser and loved to play with Am first thing in the morning. Arristuun wanted to be there to supervise. But the oppressive heat of the desert had sapped the playfulness out of both animals. Am sat behind the camels and did not move until offered breakfast.
"I hear you, Am," Arristuun said quietly. "This desert gets to me too."

Saskia let loose her magicks & prayers below and detected nothing out of the ordinary, no traps, snares or pits (other than the entrance, of course!) and the double bronze doors held no trap as far as she could fathom.
Upon scaling the wall with the help of her brother, she needed a bit of help balancing to get the proper angle in which reading the stone book was possible. It simply stated in archaic text...
My name is Maniozimus, look upon the ruins of the great city that surrounds you and despair. Great magic once was, life and vitality, now you only see the mighty ruins of men's works.
The camels seemed to have settled since the worm attack of the previous evening. In fact, no signs of life other than their party could be seen in any direction from their camp. Baal had shown those taking day watches how to wrap linen about their mouths and noses to lessen the annoyance of sand and dust. It also helped to keep them slightly cooler in the wicked heat.
As night fell, it was clear that decisions would need to be made concerning who would explore the ruins and who if anyone would remain topside. Saskia was fairly certain that the mounts would hold their place if the entire party decided to venture below.
[Still need spells from Osric/Tristan. If not picked prior to the party continuing on, I will choose.]

"I can leave Tancred up here," Saskia told the others. "If he sees danger, he will alert me."

With that being a logical answer to the question of leaving camp, the entire party descended into the well lit main chamber. The splattered carcasses of the huge furry spiders lay curled up in the middle of the chamber among the columns. As the party slid down the rest of the sand and regrouped, they approached the double stained bronze doors that stood closed before them.
[Think the area similar to Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, where the hidden temple/building is in a canyon, but here is instead underground under a giant crumbling dome.]

"It is safe to open," Saskia said, though she made no move to do so herself.

((Was it possible to leave the camels tethered to some of the ruins? Could Am the Goat descend the slope safely into the underground building?))

[The only part of the ruin seen from above is the statue. Which I'll remind you the ground before it broke through the dome to begin with. 10 camels would definitely weigh more than a couple of adventurers. Am could be lowered down by rope if wanted.]

With a sidelong glance at Saskia, Lucky crept up to the door and carefully leaned towards the cool metal doors. Screwing up his face he listened carefully for any sounds of movement, men or monsters beyond.

No noise was detected once again. Zacklun checked as well, checked for traps, detected none and carefree opened the door. The slanted floor of the dark twenty foot square entry leans toward the south. Before you, two golden doors bright and shining, gleam in your light. The doors have no handles or fixtures but are carved with eldritch writings. To the north and south, 5 foot wide passageways lead off into the darkness. [The map cut off the golden doors, they are directly to the left, and take up the middle of the two squares.] Attachments:
