Hungry though she was, Saskia did not eat the offered food. She did not trust this old man. Unsure of what answer these strangers wanted to hear, she bit her tongue for now, lest she choose a response that led to hostilities. It wouldn't have been the first time. She had a way with these flatlanders.

Saskia seemed to ignore the runes for now.
H'rathi spoke, breaking the awkward silence.
"I understand you wetlanders don't adapt well to our arid home. Perhaps you can assist us. We came here to ensure the holy artifacts here were undisturbed, as us Thune hold great importance on the sanctity of all blessed relics, no matter the religion. Our leader, Rehu, came with a small group of our scouts to secure the temple only to disappear before our very eyes in this room, just yesterday."
"While I have a respected place within our tribe, I am afraid that the long trip home would be the possible death of our missing men. I have been poring over this tome in hopes that there is a clue to how they vanished."

Lucky finished off his fourth date, which at the moment tasted better than anything else he had ever eaten. Ever.
"Vanished?" He said, fighting the urge to lick his fingers clean. "What we're they exactly doing at the time?"

Alfbern moved forward to take a look at the tome if H'rathi would allow it.

Arristuun was outside, feeding Am. Then, feeling this temple was safe, the river ranger had the goat come back in with him.

"Disappear? As in vanish? As in cease to be here, or cease to exist?" Talisen asked H'rathi. "Has anything like that ever happened before, or is that something that any of these relics could maybe make happen?"

Arristuun looked around and tried to pick up on what all this vanishing was that was being discussed. It appeared none of his companions had vanished...

H'rathi looked uneasy to let the platinum bound book go into a stranger's hands. It was perhaps the size of the span between Alfbern's elbow to the tip of his middle finger and easily three fingers thick.
"Should any harm come..."
"Perhaps if I turn the pages and you *not* touch, I can be placated."
He then looked behind him and pointed at the statue behind the altar. "I saw Rehu in between this altar and that statue. There was a flash of gold and white holy light before he and the company vanished."

"Oh, I see!" Arristuun said, fathoming some of what was being talked about. "You need our help to solve this mystery. We chased a giant, flaming, evil genie here. Did you see it? Maybe the genie is responsible for the vanishing."

"We speak not of such spirits openly, wetlander. If you met one and survived, you'd be a fool to chase it."
He made a saluting gesture to the air similar to what the guards had done earlier and then spat over his left shoulder. Then the old priest regarded Taliesin.
"I've never had one of our men disappear before my very eyes the way Rehu and the others did the other day."

Alfbern was irritated with the priest.
"Enough of this. We came to search the pyramid," he said. "How do we get into it?"

Am was wandering around and sniffing things. Arristuun kept an eye on him and made sure the goat went nowhere near this vanishing area.

"Search the pyramid for what? If you simply wish to defile this tomb, we will have to intercede. The holy rites taken place here are not for you or anyone else to desanctify."
The other dervishes stop merely looking at the walls. Hands touched hilts of blades, and one was seen slipping into the right exit. Suddenly they didn't look so friendly.

Swallowing a massive mouthful of dates, Thorsan spoke clearly without looking up from the bowl or rising to his feet, "The firs' man ta interrupt me pleasant lunch is gonna wish he hadna' done that."

Saskia was well pleased with her brother's boldness. She'd begun to tire of this conversation and quickly cut her way into it. "Tell me what you know of the Staff of Ruling."
