Saskia dropped her spear, kneeling down next to Alfbern's still body. She put a hand to his chest, felt his heart beating, and exhaled a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. "He lives," she said. No time for celebrating that small victory. He wasn't out of the woods, yet. Spider venom could have all manor of deadly or debilitating long-term effects. There were at least three wounds, two on his neck and on his leg. She'd do what she could to counteract the venom...

From her experience in similar tomb spider poison Saskia was sure that this was simply a paralytic. Alfbern's eyes still followed movement and he still breathed, albeit shallowly. [Critical herbalism skill check] It was only a matter of time before he would be up and running again, but without restorative magics, they would have to just wait it out. Could be minutes or hours.

Taliesin took a deep breath and surveyed the underground environment. His eyes adjusted to the added light after bringing out his glowing brooch from a pouch.

[Magical arrows are expended in use.] ((<-- Gotcha))

Zacklun landed amid some debris while still invisible, took his human shape, and dropped his spell like ability. He looked around and frowned, "There's sand down here. Didn't they ever sweep, or clean up after themselves? Perhaps that is the curse.. 'Beware trespassing traveler, for thee hast crossed into forbidden lands filled with dusty floors, used underclothes not put into hampers, and dirty plates.'."
His face brightened, "Maybe there are desert dwarfs here! Are there desert dwarfs? I know there there are mountain dwarfs and hill dwarfs, and that there are wood, sea, and high elves, so are there desert dwarfs?" While he chattered, Zacklun did scan the surroundings lit by the brooch (using his Observation skill). He was less worried about gold, which weighed a lot, or jewels, though they did seem to make the ladies happy, but his concern was focused on other ambush predators or foul creatures. He was also looking for traps that these lumbering fools could trigger as they waddled around.
Once he was sure that they were safe, he smiled and sighed. "At least it's cooler down here. I can't say that I completely approve of your decision to plunge headlong down here, but the result is acceptable." He noticed Alfbern, "Oh.. well.. except for that part, of course.", he added as an afterthought.

Thorsan cleaned his axe on one half of his hairy victim, then chucked his helmet on the ground and used his iron-shod boots to kick the dead spider off it. "First rides free, beastie. After that, ye gotta pay!" He laughed at his own joke, then looked up at the spider's webs to see if anything (or anyone) of interest was caught in them.

There weren't many webs about. There was a pile of bones behind one of the columns closer to the bronze doors. Scattered about they found 12 platinum coins, 23 copper coins, and 2 red faceted garnet gems. The coins were not of a mint any one here had ever seen.

Bit breathed shakily as he collected his spent daggers - it had been a long time since he was a guttersnipe and had to 'kill' anything more than a piece of fruit or a target. Whether he liked it or not, he was quite out of practice when it came to causing harm to others, even if they were giant terrifying spiders. This was something he would have to come to terms with before he put the limbs or lives of his fellows into danger.
Walking back towards the shaft of light streaming in from the opening above, he began to clamber up the rope to check on Arristuun and the others. "Oh right" he panted "the dwarf woke up..."
[collecting daggers, climbing back up to the surface]

Baal pulled out a torch he'd found in the pack on his camel mount and ignited it using the sacred flame emanating from his palm before it expired. Fire GOOD. Big poisonous spiders BAD.
Torch in hand, he joined Saskia at Alfbern's side, "May I offer a prayer to aid in his recovery?"
Alfbern's eyes widened slightly at the question, as if to grant the druid permission to proceed.
Saskia nodded after a few moments of assessing her brother's condition.
"Oh blessed Ramman, grant your brave protector full return to health!" Baal handed the torch to Saskia, closed his eyes, and placed a small trinket upon Alfbern's forehead. As he completed the prayer, a soft blue-white glow appeared over Alfbern's head where the trinket had been placed. He removed the small clay token to reveal the symbol of Ramman the life-giver--a spear piercing through a rain cloud still softly glowing blue-white upon the wounded half-elf.
There appeared tiny, dimly-lit drops of water emanating from Baal's hand. As he held the sacred symbol over Alfbern, the soft glowing droplets washed over the bites from the giant spiders and began to close the wounds. ((CLW))

((Bob, how are you handling spell recovery? I'd like to change and/or restore Baal's spells))
After you next rest.

Saskia watched Baal's ritual with curiosity. She knew similar magic, but the particulars of the stranger's rite were different from those her tribe performed. If they proved to be more effective, she would have to try to replicate them at a later time.

"We should rest. I need to commune with Ramman and Alfbern does not look his usual self," Baal looked to Saskia as he stood. He gestured to take the torch back from her.

Saskia gestured to where she had dropped the torch to the ground. With her Continual Light spell illuminating the cavern, there hadn't seemed a need for her to hold on to it. She sat down next to where her brother lay, spear across her legs. As long as Alfbern was incapacitated, she would keep vigil over him.

The bard listened at the double doors as the druid prayed over the elf.

There was no noise that Taliesin could hear beyond the doors. The poison also did not wear off even after a few minutes. They may be down here a while if they waited for Alfbern to regain usage of his limbs. The party as a whole was getting tired, after the evening battle, travel and subsequent foray below.
