It had to be spiders. Again. Alfbern's first arrow sped true and lodged deeply into his arachnid foe. It was still moving, but it was a solid hit near the eyes. It felt good to be further away from these critters this time, he thought as he readied another arrow and prepared to let fly.
Thorsan charged and let a hammer fly. It wedged solidly into the cranium of a spidery villain, splattering it before it even knew what hit him. Galatea and Osric followed close behind, weapons raised.
Lucky, seeing the dwarven warrior's successful attack, picked a target for his first pig sticker. It hit a dust colored enemy in its thorax, even from this distance. It was not a mortal wound and he readied another blade for the same victim.
That was when he and the rest of the party saw something erupt from the sand. Two giant red banded spider legs shot out of the sand in front and attempted to grab Thorsan! Galatea & Osric stopped their charge in order to not fall into the once masked pit before them. The dwarf got bitten in the face [6 damage]. Poison dripped from devil fangs, but he easily fought off its effects. It tried to grab and pull him under, but he succeeded in breaking it's hold. It still remained mostly under the sand.
This foe, if the party could tell based on leg size alone, would easily be twice as large as the other spiders they'd fought.
Arristuun and Taliesin had already picked targets and let fly, each hitting a separate poisonous foe in the distance. Both remained standing, and it was hard to tell how badly they were hit from here and with the current distraction.
Zacklun, invisible, snuck ahead quickly and finished off the spider Arristuun hit with his stone. It went down. To everyone else, it looked as if it had dropped a few seconds after the ranger had tagged it.
Alfbern's second arrow repeated a score on the same foe, dropping it. It was an impressive hit, not 2 finger's away in the dark.
Taliesin's second arrow missed widely.
Lucky's second knife hit, but again did not fell his opponent. It did seem to be enraged at the attack and screeched loudly.
And that was when Saskia & Baal noticed another three spiders approaching them from a dune to the right, effectively flanking the pit spider.
[3 spiders dead. One huge spider trying to eat Thorsan. 2 foes left and injured behind it. 3 fresh ones approaching from the right. Next round's intent?]
