Which side of the columns do you decide to set camp?

They based camp on the side they approached the columns, perhaps a few yards away. It took an excruciating 40 minutes to set and the wind had started to blow from East to West, kicking a hot dry air as they raised tents. The water was a great addition to their stores and quite relieving that they had a divine source instead of their ration. The only question now was who would take watches during the day and for how long. It was perhaps 9 AM with at least another 10 hours of sunlight left during the day.

He took a direction and scouted. It was hot but he lacked the heavy and restrictive armor the others wore.
Then he set the party to watches as they slept the heat of the day away.

As Alfbern scouted a bit to the South and West (to the right side of the columns and forward); he had to catch himself as the sand gave way beneath his feet! He caught himself quickly and jumped back. [Dex check made by 8] A decent sized sinkhole of looser, less dense sand had nearly taken him down.
He wondered how common these were in the area. This one could have easily swallowed a few camels. Or an unruly dwarf.

Zacklun had done as Saskia suggested, he drank his fill and left the empty waterskin. As he flew along, his keen eyes scanning the sand and horizon, he wondered if one day she would become trained enough to create wine instead of just water. She tended to get mad when he asked questions like that, but there were no druids among his people. They simply weren't needed, if you wanted to talk to a tree.. you became a tree. If you wanted to talk to an animal, you simply became that animal. When you wanted to screw with a bunch of elves or other humanoids that wander too close to a moot.. you got to let loose. It was frowned upon to cause permanent harm to any but evil creatures. The air was less stifling as he flitted about, but he did land occasionally to assess the ground. Zacklun had learned the hard way to check for dangers on the ground, you miss two.. three.. six pit traps and people get all scream-y and yell-y.

"I am happy to take first watch, best to get it over with now" Bit offered to the group. To himself he also took onto consideration it would only get hotter as time passed. In the meantime, he began to practice a fast moving juggling routine with his scimitar and silver dagger. Weaving them back and forth between his hands created a flurry of motion, only enhanced by the stark morning sun.

Thorsan drank his skin and refilled it. Then filled his shield and helmet with water, gave the shield to the camels to drink as a peace offering, and dumped the helmet over his head. Sputtering, water dripping down his beard, he settled into a tent. "Wake me fer last watch; or if ye find somethin' that has too much blood in it and ye need help gettin' some out."

Alfbern returned and shared a warning, "The sand can be treacherous in places. It fell away like a pit at one point. Be careful if you leave the trail."
He then settled in to take first watch with Bit.

"In addition to Saskia's alarm, I think we should do two-man watches for most of the day," Arristuun said. He proposed four three-hour shifts of: Albern Bithautor Zacklun Galatea Arristuun Talesin (mainly so their pets could play together) Thorsan
((So this is what people feel like when they fall behind on reading in my campaigns...))

Alfbern spoke up for his sister, "Sounds good. Wake Saskia to watch with Thorsan. Careful. She bites."

The wind picked up a bit, but never got to the point of blowing anything over. Thankfully. A sand storm in this place could make it very easy to get lost or at the very least cause it very hard to breathe & see without adequate shelter. The rest of the day went uneventful and again it became time to travel. They ate a sparse meal, wiped what dirt and sweat had accumulated and began to break down their tents. Night had once again fallen.
