Stretching his aching bones, bit actually smiled when he heard that people - not spiders, or demons or some other unimaginable horror - awaited them at the entrance. Finally, a chance for him to, perhaps, be useful.
"I think a closer look at these guards might be in order. Anyone interested in joining me?" Bit said as he looked for the best way to safely clamber up on top of the roof.
[What time of day is it?] [Climb Walls : 95%]

"I'm in," Galatea responded, gathering up her weapons. She was getting tired of waiting for reports and gnawing on leftover camel meat.

Mid late morning.
Lucky and Galtea both easily scaled the wall inside the abandoned building and up though the hole in the roof. This did give them a better view of the ruins and his quarry. While Lucky's eyes weren't quite as keen as the elves, he could definitely make out two guards to either side of the temple's entrance. They wore white and cream colored linens, that were offset by dark, curly hair and bronzed skin. Each looked armed with wickedly curved blades. Galatea was able to confirm little more detail.
Something also struck him as odd. Wouldn't a pool the size of the one before the temple entrance require a well or source of it's water? It was dry, but did not seem to contain a well or even a hole where water may have come from. Curious.
They made way back to the ground and filled the others in to what they'd learned.

"I think we've waited long enough," Arristuun said after listening to Bit and Galatea's report. "Let's just go up there to that entrance, call out to them, and tell them we come in peace." Impatiently, Arristuun got up and made for the doorway to their ruined building while he spoke.

Alfbern just chuckled quietly at all these plans to deal with those guards peacefully. Flatlanders always thought they had a right to enter where they were not invited. These guards would need to be killed, probably. Alfbern went along and swore he would give no sign of violence. But he would be ready for when the guards to the pyramid grew tired of Flatlander words.

Never in his life had Bit been offered peace by a guard, and didn't for one moment think that this blasted desert would make them any more amenable. "While you think that parlay is possible, I have no such illusions. I'll make my way around the eastern side of the buildings rather than taking the path."

Osric gently grabbed the blademaster's arm.
"Think about this fer a second. When was the last time you've traveled with holy men an women? Not as many directly aim ta harm us folk. The Gawds curse those who dare directly harm their 'umble servants. That's a temple there, and any food and water and beer'll be there. Ishtar teaches us that makin' friends is what grows our communities and such. We go first ta make friends and if they be foes in-a-stead, we beat their 'eads in. Praise the Grain Mistress."

Before he left, Arristuun turned and pointed at Osric. "I like this dwarf. You're with me." Then he pointed at the goat. "Am -- stay."
Then he was off to the guarded entrance to the temple!

Alfbern motioned with his head for his sister to come with before heading after the ranger and dwarf. They seemed useful and he thought keeping them alive a basically good idea.

Bit shook his head as the others headed out. Falling in behind them, he tried to think of the last time that "godly" folk had actually acted in accordance with their professed beliefs.
Hopefully, this was one of those times.
