The group was starting to feel like there was no end in sight. Just the same sand dunes mile after mile. Their legs hurt. The food was barely edible. And Thorsan hadn't been sharing his stash.
And that was when the trail ended. Perhaps the storm from the evening before had caused it to be hidden or was some sort of cruel god playing tricks on them?

"Uh-oh. This isn't good..." Arristuun said. "Let's spread out and look for signs of where to go!"
The river ranger attempted to find tracks.

Alfbern headed for the nearest high ground to let his keen elven-inherited eyes look for the signs that Arristuun had called for.

Saskia sent Tancred to the air, if there was something near them, his keen eyes would spot it.

Tancred flew away to scout for his mistress while the others scoured the sands.
There was no evidence of the trail picking up again. With the stars and a good sense of direction between them, they thought they could continue on in the same general direction.
The familiar returned only to confirm that there was no further path. Saskia felt a questioning thought, followed by the thrill of the hunt and a feeling similar to that of when she'd sent Tancred to follow the crow-efreet. The majestic beast took roost on her shoulder.

After his sister had shared what she knew with him, Alfbern said, "We do our best to continue."
Then he set off in the general direction the trail had led.

"Wait!" Arristuun said. "Should we try digging around here first? See if there's some reason the path ends here?"

"I will ask the gods for guidance," Saskia said. She knelt on the sand, spreading out a series of bones before her, and invoked a divine ritual. When it was complete, she called out. "I seek wisdom and enlightenment. Will digging in this location avail us anything?"

Her ritual ended with an angelic voice intoning the following rhyme: "A spirit may erase a trail dig the sand to no avail carry on and you may see a soul cursed to wander eternity."

"Ooo. Sounds posh," Arristuun said. ((After either hearing the voice himself or having Saskia tell everyone what it said.)) "Right -- onward, then!"

So the stranded fellowship moved on. The stars were bright that night along with the not quite full moon was help in guiding their shuffling footsteps. A couple of hours past midnight the group noticed a lone man in rags standing atop a sand dune ahead of them. He was perhaps 3 large dunes away and within shouting distance.

"I think that's the one," Alfbern said. He stopped and waited for one of the more talkative party members to assail the man.

Bit had grown sullen since the incident with the acid rain. As the grit accumulated and time stretched on he once again pondered why exactly he decided to join up with this band, who seemed to encounter nothing more glorious than a place that did everything in its power to kill them.
Finally, after so many dusty steps, he saw the figure upon the dune ahead and something snapped inside of him.
Striding forward he shouted "And what is your curse, friend? It seems everything in this gods forsaken desert is ours to bear so I cannot imagine any are left! Or is there some other abominable circumstance we have not encountered yet?!"

The figure did not reply. It just slowly advanced forward with a shuffling gait towards the party. The figure was now reaching the dip between the dunes and would be out of view most likely for a few minutes until it crested the next dune.

Baal broke his silence as the strange figure disappeared below the sand dune's crest, "I do not think it prudent to invite trouble when we have enjoyed a break from our woes as of late. Perhaps Zacklun can get a closer look at this lone wanderer without being detected." The druid let a coy half grin appear upon his face as he turned to the often scarce and curious young man.
