Thorsan replied to Arristuun, "Just now." He picked up a few of the foreign coins and jingled them in his palm,"Where do ye reckon a spider goes on vacation ter get the like o' these?" He winked and grinned, all thoughts of fangs and dripping venom banished by the twinkling light of silver and gold.

Alfbern did not help with the counting but instead continued past to examine the door. Then, if it lacked anything of obvious interest or danger, he tried to open it. If it was stuck badly he would summon over the other two warriors to help get the thing open or smashed out of the way.

It opened inward after a few hard tugs on the handle, only to reveal a wall of compressed sand & dirt. Some of it spilled into the room, but not much considering the substantial pressure it was under. Interesting that at one point the desert was not as deep in this area sometime in the ancient past.

Alfbern used his new short sword to poke around a bit in the sand and dirt to see if anything useful might be near the surface. Then he closed the door and turned back to help recover the coins.

After butchering the spider, Galatea joined the others in the spider's lair. "So, what've we got here?" She looked around at the underground structure and scattered coins, taking in the ruins and detritus. "Why'd you guys close the door on the rest of us?"

"147...148...14--"
"Why'd you guys close the door on the rest of us?" Galatea asked.
Arristuun sighed. "....1....2....3..."

Galatea was a rare creature, an elf that tolerated traveling with half breeds. It was also not uncommon for some of things she said to make much sense.
[Only one door, leading nowhere was open before Alfbern.]
Alfbern found nothing of interest in the sand and dirt before him. Then he shut the door.

The counting took quite a while. After separating the platinum from the rest, Arristuun counted and came to the total of 323 platinum coins. While sorting, it was easier to pick out the gold. There were 28 pieces. Twenty-five total minutes had passed.
Would they do something with the silver and copper?
The others topside had finished the butchery of the spiders. Daylight would be coming soon.

Lucky, still above ground, looked around the landscape and thought of the coming Sun. He shouted down "Fellows, does this place seem like a good location to wait out the day's heat?"

"323 platinum coins," Arristuun told anyone who was listening. "And 28 gold. But I propose we temporarily stop collecting any treasure worth less than platinum, so we don't overly burden ourselves hauling treasure around the desert.
"Since it's almost daylight, we'd better plan on camping and resting until nightfall. How about down here? This old shaft should provide us with plenty of shade, and be cooler than the surface."

Lucky chuckled at the duplicated conversational efforts, as well as Arristuun's unintended and delicious double entendre.

Alfbern nodded.
"We camp down here. Post watch above ground."
He then started dragging the waste into one "corner" of the area. He figured many would really prefer a nice clear area to rest.

Thorsan threw down his bedroll on the pile of leftover silver & copper, and flopped down to rest. "Lookit me! Ima draaaaagoooonnnn!" he growled, wallowing in the coins.

Arristuun made sure Am made it safely down into the bottom of the shaft as well.
