[Post intentions here. Galatea is currently gutting spiders for steaks. Perhaps an hour or two before the sun rises game time.]

((Can we assume someone shares that the trapdoor spider's lair includes stone?))
Once his bow was restrung, Alfbern made his way forward to where Galatea was hacking the spider into pieces. He chose not to make any suggestions, just glad she was being useful, and instead scooted around the thing and looked down into its lair. If there was no apparent danger, he could get down into it fairly easily, and he could motion for a few others to join him, then he hopped down in to explore.
Down there he would stow his bow and take his morningstar from its hanger on his waist.

Saskia joined Galtea in the dirty work of butchering the spiders. It was dirty work but necessary, starvation could easily become their most dangerous foe in this wasteland.

Alfbern's keen eyes helped him pick out some strange details in the ginormous arachnid's lair. To start, it seemed as if he were looking down a flagstone well or crumbling tower base hidden beneath the sand. Perhaps 12-15 feet wide, some of the slate stones jutted out from around the wall in a spiral, suggesting a stairwell leading down around the spider corpse. It didn't go too far before he could see crumbled stone, bones, sand and webbing forming a disheveled floor (just a shade deeper than it was wide). It was either a lot deeper or taller at one time or never completed.
He did also notice a metallic glimmer in the debris as well. He would be able to get a better look if he actually descended into the lair.
The spider's bloated body was perhaps ten or eleven feet wide and was still barely clinging over the edge of the wall. It didn't look like it was going to fall down any time soon unless Thorsan threw it down.

"Hey, there's a structure underground beneath the spi-- oh, you already found it," Arristuun said, a little disappointed. But he was happy to see that everyone was still alive. He ran over and patted Am on the head. "Good job chasing those spiders away, boy!"
Then he came back over to the others investigating the structure. "I'll search it. Let's move this spider corpse so I can get to the stairs. Anyone want to anchor me with a rope, in case those stairs crumble?"

"Make sure to avoid the venom sacs and cook off the outer spines of hair if you want to have a better dining experience with these arachnid carcasses," Baal announced as he walked by Galatea and Saskia.
He then looked over the well's edge where the giant spider had been taking shelter, "Alfbern, how is the descent? I can burn off the webs if you want."

Saskia glanced up from her grisly work long enough to glare at Baal's back as he walked away. With a snarl, she spit in the druid's general direction. Sadly he was too far away to be hit, but the gesture made her feel better regardless.

Arristuun and Alfbern negotiated the decent with the help of Baal and Osric holding a rope topside. It wasn't hard to maneuver about the spider... just incredibly disgusting.
The webs didn't get in the way so much as they thought. A faint arch on the west wall held a petrified-looking wooden door. A heap of various animal & humanoid bones lay in the middle of the chamber. Huddled in a pile to the north end of the room was a decently large stash of coins, unfamiliar in shape, but with platinum, gold and copper showing their familiar gleam. A brownish desiccated corpse of some medium sized humanoid lay to the right of this pile on it's side wearing tattered light leather armor. A smallish sword was seen just in front of it. The blade was ebon in shade, and the hilt wrapped in deep red cloth. A silver pommel was worked in the shape of a snarling wolf. Small red gemstones were set in the eyes. No matter how bad ass it looked, it apparently didn't save it's previous master from the demon above.

Alfbern approached the corpse and retrieved the sword. He gave it a few experimental swings to assess its quality.
Then he stuck it in his belt before joining Arristuun in whatever he was examining.

While he wasn't as skilled with a blade, he could still tell that this one was extremely well balanced and quite keen.

Everyone had given him a wide berth while Thorsan had calmed down again. When the rage had faded, he examined himself for wounds to bind, then ambled over to examine the pile of coins, keeping an eye out for any gems. He made sure to give the spider's corpse another kick with an iron shod boot before leaving.

Lucky still stood by the pit and the slain spider, covered in ichor from its death wound, dazed.
He saw other pass by him and descend into the pit - saw the grisly butchering of the carcass, and yet just stood, trying to puzzle out why he charged headlong towards the deadly creature.
After a number of moments of silent contemplation, he decided it was courage, and that answer came as a pleasant surprise.
Smiling, he wiped his blade clean and safely stowed it away. Shouting down "So, have we found something worth exploring then?"

Baal was trying to maintain his focus anchoring the rope topside of the well with Osric when Lucky arrived and caught his attention. There was something different about him.
"Lucky, how are you doing?" he paused for a moment.
"Being exposed to the kinds of dangers one must face in order to survive in this kind of place can be. . .overwhelming." Baal sensed the bard was slightly tense, but also relieved.

Arristuun was counting platinum coins when Thorsan showed up. "When did you get down here?" the river ranger asked.

There were more platinum coins than the ranger could quickly count, plus they were in a pile of mixed coinage. The bulk of it was in copper coins, but there was also silver (mostly tarnished) & gold. If he had to guess, there were several thousand copper coins, a few thousand silver coins and a couple hundred platinum pieces. Gold was found in a smaller amount, perhaps a a few scattered here or there. There were a few strange older coins that Arristuun did not recognize along with a few that were common in the Northern states.
No gems were seen other than the two set in the pommel of the blade Alfbern carried.
Thorsan's arrival had caused him to have to reset his counting from zero.
